KISS IT BETTER - for children with cancer
Clinique is delighted to partner for the third year running with Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s Charity for the KISS IT BETTER appeal - raising money to fund research into the causes and treatment of childhood cancer.
KISS IT BETTER is the brainchild of Carmel Allen whose daughter Josephine was treated at the hospital for Neuroblastoma - a type of cancer. After many months spent at the hospital, and struggling to reconcile life as a Beauty Editor, Carmel decided that she wanted to help and devised the KISS IT BETTER appeal.
"The premise was really simple, Kiss it Better is something every parent says and does when their child is sick or injured. I wanted to turn Josephine's experience into something positive and to help make a difference to the lives of children with cancer everywhere" says Carmel.
Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children first opened its doors on Valentine's Day, 1852 and to help celebrate the hospital's birthday and raise funds for the KISS IT BETTER appeal, Clinique has again puckered up with House of Fraser throughout the month of February 2010 to help raise money for Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s Charity.
“I am thrilled to support this amazing campaign. Kiss it Better is helping Great Ormond Street Hospital to raise funds for research into the causes and treatment of childhood cancer – the biggest disease affecting children today. As a mum, I can’t imagine a more worthwhile cause.” Edith Bowman
This year, Clinique has created a special NEW Long Last Glosswear SPF15 in
‘I ? Kisses’ shade. This long-lasting, high shine gloss with the added benefit of SPF 15 will be sold exclusively in House of Fraser stores nationwide during the month of February, with £2.00 going to the KISS IT BETER appeal.
The NEW Long Last Glosswear SPF15 in ‘I ? Kisses’ shade can also be purchased on www.clinique.co.uk throughout the month of February, with £2.00 going to the KISS IT BETTER appeal.
This £2.00 donation will also apply to all Clinique lipstick or lipgloss sold at House of Fraser stores nationwide, throughout February 2010. (£1.00 will be donated by Clinique and £1.00 will be donated by House of Fraser).
“From wearing a pin badge through to treating yourself to a new lipgloss, there are so many ways you can get involved with Kiss it Better. Check out the website for all the ideas. You’ll really be helping Great Ormond Street Hospital in their treatment of children with cancer.” Kate Thornton

Led by Executive Chef Jocelyn Herland, Restaurant Director Christian Laval and Head Sommelier Mathias Negro, the restaurant has been in operation since November 2007. Three Stars denote “exceptional cuisine, worth a special journey”.

Alain Ducasse at The Dorchester opened on 13th November 2007. Located within the famous Park Lane hotel, at the heart of Mayfair, the restaurant is one of London’s most elegant venues. FAT FACE & ANDREA WILLIAMSON COLLABORATE TO PRESENT A LIMITED EDITION BIG FOOT SCARF
Fat Face has collaborated with iconic Shetland Island based wool designer, Andrea Williamson, to create their Winter 09 feature item - The Fat Face Big Foot Scarf. Andrea has been designing and producing cult knitted accessories since her childhood, learning and perfecting the technique of wool application from the generations of women in her family.
Andrea’s inspiration comes from traditional Shetland knitting which has absorbed influences from centuries of trade links with Europe and Scandinavia, and its result is currently one of the most consistent fashion trends on the winter market.
Andrea says, “Over the years I have collected old battered notebooks of patterns and garments from generations of family members, I take the vibrant and innovative sections of these designs to create quirky modern guises”.
“Through only using natural Shetland sourced lambs wool I am able to make sure my creations have minimum impact on the environment but still have the soft tactile qualities which wool provides.

PAINT YOUR DREAMS - SUMMER ART COURSES 2010
HUGO Grenville, the celebrated British painter and exceptional tutor, invites serious artists of all abilities to join his inspirational painting courses. These are based at his studio - a converted Victorian chocolate factory on the edge of Hackney, London, or a stunning traditional house in Portugal.
Hugo Grenville is developing a reputation as one of the country’s finest art teachers. His courses have a devoted following, and are known for nurturing individual talent. Students are encouraged to push themselves to the next level by acquiring technique and self-belief. Hugo and his assistant Lisa Freeman explain complex ideas simply and imaginatively.
The venues offer very different experiences: Dalston is rich in contrasts, colour and diversity and offers a stimulating slice of London artistic life. Hugo’s studio is in an established artists’ community down a cobbled street, in an area where you will find an exotic mix of Turkish baths, African textiles and food from every continent. The quarter epitomises British cool and Victorian elegance, combined with a fascinating cultural mix.
In comparison, Olhao, Portugal offers a retreat from work and busyness, allowing students – especially beginners to focus on their painting. The warmth, peace and colour restore students’ energies and the medieval market town, rural landscapes and Mediterranean seascapes and harbours provide a wealth of inspiration. The house has vaulted ceilings, Roman brickwork, three courtyards and an olive tree believed to be over 150 years old. Lovely gardens, swimming pools and delicious local food and wine complete the experience.
Hugo Grenville’s courses cover techniques in oils, composition, use of colour and figures in landscape painting. For those needing an extra push to move from amateur to professional artist, Hugo runs a day course to help with practical and creative issues such as marketing, selling paintings, creative thinking and effective working practices.

The Ebury will be hosting a Burns Night Supper on January 25th to celebrate the life of renowned Scottish poet, Robert Burns. As well as a full traditional menu the evening will include live entertainment from a piper. The Ebury have created a bespoke cocktail The Scotch Lyricist to begin proceedings. The Scotch whisky based drink is mingled with frangelico and cheery heering and is finished with the familiar warmth of amaretto and served straight up.
Start the meal off with a choice between a selection of starters including Cock a Leekie Soup, Arbroath Smokies Mousse with Scottish Oatcakes, or “Rumbled” Smoked Salmon Served on a Potato Cake with Soured Cream.
With a glass of Scotch whisky, get ready to toast the traditional main courses which will include Haggis with Neeps and Tatties, Aberdeen Angus Grilled Rib Eye with a Potato Scone and “Auld Reekie” Sauce, and Loch Duart Salmon Fillet with a Whisky Sauce.

For these reasons, its stadium has been chosen as an official training venue for athletes preparing for the London 2012 Olympic & Paralympic Games.
Eton Dorney, near Windsor Castle is also being used as a training venue and for the paralympic rowing competition of the 2012 Games.
Gearing up to the 2012 Paralympics & accessibility for all
As part of Tourism South East’s project, the regional tourist board has developed a special programme of ‘Destination Access Audits’ and has subsidised ‘Welcome All’ training in key 2012 destinations.
For the Access Audits, Tourism South East has worked very closely with independent assessors to ensure that facilities and services are updated in key destinations. This process is vital to making life easier, not just for people who are wheelchair users or those with hearing and sight impairments, but also the elderly, those with learning difficulties and people with small children in buggies and prams.
Furthermore, Tourism South East has launched an Accentuate programme, which seeks to challenge perceptions and offer opportunities to showcase the talents of disabled people. Funded by Legacy Trust UK, SEEDA and the regional cultural agencies, Accentuate combines 15 major projects, inspired by the South East’s heritage as the birthplace of the Paralympic Games.
Brighton as an accessibility leader
Brighton was the first city to participate in the Access Audit scheme and has since been used as a model for other destinations in the region, such as the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead, Winchester and key locations in Buckinghamshire.
Increased accessibility in the South East
South East boasts an ever-increasing choice of accessible accommodation and attractions, in order to welcome visitors with impaired mobility, hearing or eyesight or with special needs. The choice of accessible guest accommodation, B&Bs, hotels, self catering properties, hostels and camping and caravanning sites is forever expanding, as providers strive to meet the needs of all visitors. Similarly, from historic sites and castles to theme parks and museums, there are an increasing number of accessible attractions to choose from.
From the supply of ramps, disabled parking, induction loops, or large print menus, to the provision of disability awareness training for staff, the South East is increasingly striving to meet the needs of all visitors.
