Ballet Shoes

To celebrate 75 years of publication, Cath Kidston has designed a special cover of her favourite children’s book – Ballet Shoes by Noel Streatfeild.

A timeless classic with over one million copies sold, Ballet Shoes continues to be loved by both children and adults. 75 years on, this heart warming tale of three adoptive sisters, Pauline, Petrova and Polly striving to pursue their dreams whilst holding the family together has lost none of its charm.

Noel Streatfeild once said that Ballet Shoes was ‘really a fairy story with its feet halfway on the ground’ – a magical description for a magical book.

Noel was born in Sussex in 1895 and was one of three sisters. Although Noel was considered the plain daughter; she ended up leading a glamorous and exciting life. After working in munitions factories and canteens for the armed forces when the First World War broke out Noel followed her dream of a life on stage attending RADA where she became a professional actress.

She began writing children’s books in 1931. Ballet Shoes was published in 1936. She quickly became one of the most popular authors of her day and was one of the first winners of the Carnegie Medal and was awarded an OBE in 1983.

THE ULTIMATE COLLECTION
Estates & Wines, the Moët Hennessy Wine Division, has just launched a special release of icon wines from six of its estates in some of the most famous wine regions in the world. This extraordinary collection of wines – one bottle of each estate’s “icon” wine - is a wonderful opportunity to savour the flavours and discover the tastes of such famous wines as Cloudy Bay, Cape Mentelle,Terrazas de los Andes, Cheval des Andes, Newton Vineyard and Numanthia.

“The Ultimate Collection” is an odyssey; a journey which takes wine lovers to lands and places that they may not know, may never have visited. Linked to this image are those of mystery, of new tastes and sensations. With “The Ultimate Collection”, wine drinkers can embark on an exciting voyage which will lead them to new tasting adventures. In recognition of this willingness to discover new worlds, Estates & Wines has selected the very best wines created by its winemakers from the four corners of the world, to act as the ambassadors. These icon wines are the best guides one can have.

From the elegant, smooth flavours of Cape Mentelle’s Cabernet Sauvignon, grown in the cool climate of the Margaret River in Australia, to the rich, chocolate and dark fruit flavours of Numanthia Termanthia produced in Spain’s most exciting wine region, Toro, passing by the Andes to enjoy Cheval des Andes and Terrazas de los Andes Afincado Malbec, the Napa Valley to savour the beauty of Spring Mountain grapes with Newton The Puzzle, finally to arrive at Cloudy Bay, at the end of the world, where a glass of the extraordinary Te Koko, aged for three years before release awaits you, this is truly an exciting tasting voyage.

Each wine of “The Ultimate Collection” can stand on its own merits but it is its inclusion in a selection with the other wines which gives it further resonance. This common thread, this universal ribbon, is the philosophy and the passion behind the creation of each wine. The wines might come from totally different parts of the world but they are tied together by their sense of place. Three of these wines have earned their icon status because they were the pioneers in the region:Terrazas de los Andes, Cape Mentelle and Cloudy Bay put their respective regions of Mendoza, Margaret River and Marlborough on the world wine map.

The other three have earned their “icon” status for the plaudits they have won as artisan wines, crafted out of the desire to push the winemaking boundaries out further, to see what can be done with experimentation, blending and careful aging.

These icon wines are produced in small quantities and it is often difficult to obtain these reserve bottlings. Here in one elegant wine case, are six compelling wines which will increase one’s wine horizons and add new adventures to wine lovers’ taste experiences.

This is the latest initiative from the wine branch of the Moet Hennessy Group – Estates and Wines. The stunning collectors box (£500 and available from Harrods) contains six hero wines from around the world, including Argentina, New Zealand and Spain.

Designed by the sought after Parisian artist Pablo Reinoso, this is a not only a design feature but a sensory experience highlighting the breadth and quality of the brand.

NEW ITALIAN STYLE ICON ADDS A TOUCH OF CLASS TO THE UK FIAT AND GUCCI ANNOUNCE UK LAUNCH OF 500BYGUCCI AVAILABLE NOW

· First collaboration between these two iconic Italian brands hits the UK
· 500byGucci available to buy now via www.fiat.co.uk/500bygucci
· Exclusive design launched during the year of the 150th anniversary of the unification of Italy and Gucci's 90th anniversary

Two Italian powerhouses, Fiat and Gucci, have united to create the 500byGucci which hits UK shores this month.

The 500byGucci is a special edition of the iconic Fiat 500 which has been customised by Gucci Creative Director Frida Giannini in partnership with Fiat's Centro Stile, supported by the strategic expertise of Lapo Elkann. This union validates Fiat’s standing both as a motoring icon and 21st century design leader.

When launched in 1957, the Fiat 500 soon became the must have car of its time and, since then, the design has constantly evolved, focussing on customisation to broaden its appeal.

Currently, there are 500,000 ways to customise a Fiat 500 and the new 500byGucci has taken this to the next level by also developing a range of ready-to-wear and accessories uniquely designed by Frida Giannini. The collection includes travel accessories, small leather goods, drivers, tracksuits, bombers, driver’s gloves, sunglasses and a watch, which will be available in select Gucci stores and online.

Speaking of the collaboration, Lapo Elkann said, "As a creative, I feel an affinity with the UK. Like Italy, Britain is a nation that embraces and nurtures innovation, design and individuality. As such, I’m honoured that London is playing host to the UK launch of this iconic Italian partnership in what is a very important anniversary year for Italy. It has indeed been very gratifying to work again on the car I love most with Frida Giannini and Fiat's Centro Stile.”

WEST END STYLE COMES TO HEATHROW
A brand new bar has opened at the Radisson Edwardian Heathrow Hotel, bringing West End style and panache to the UK’s busiest airport.

The designers of Bijou Bar have created a “jewel” within the 4 star hotel renowned for it’s spacious and luxurious events spaces. The Bijou Bar features opulent silver fabric wall coverings and a mirrored champagne and spirits bar creating an intimate and sophisticated stop-over for both flyers and locals.

“We aren’t like the airport lounge-style open plan bars known around Heathrow” said General Manager Gavin Sanders. “We’re more like a private club; intimate, stylish and with a cool vibe.”

A striking chandelier is the statement piece of the room and is positioned below a multi faceted mirror, which throws shimmering light across the room.

An impressive cocktail list and champagne menu makes the bar a destination for celebrations, after meetings, pre and post flights or just for the sheer enjoyment of relaxation in the most gorgeous room at the airport.

“We’re incredibly excited about the opening of Bijou and the response from guests and the local community has been really positive which makes it all worthwhile.” Mr Sanders continued.

The recent new look at the hotel has extended to dining too with designers having unveiled a brand new style and feel in the Brasserie earlier this year.

Bijou is open from 5pm until 1am Monday-Friday and 8am-1am Saturday and Sunday. To book a table call 0208 7577 917 or visit www.radissonedwardian.com.

SPICE MARKET LAUNCHES SIX NEW DELICIOUS DISHES FOR LUNCH
Jean-Georges Vongerichten’s London restaurant, Spice Market, has introduced six new dishes to add to their South East Asian-inspired lunch menu. Guests dining at lunchtime can now enjoy a salad of Grilled Salmon and Rocket with Crystallised Mustard and Lemon Soy Vinaigrette; the traditional Asian dish Chicken Pad Thai or Cornish Crab and Egg Scramble with Sesame, Chilies and Lime.

For burger fans, Spice Market will be serving two fantastic options - Grilled Yellowfin Tuna Burger with Shiso and Citrus Pickles and a Grilled Short Rib Burger with Daikon and Chilli as well as a Grilled Chicken Sandwich with Asian Pear and Chili Mayonnaise. These new additions demonstrate South East Asian cuisine at its best; the lunch menu really does have something for everyone. Every one of these six dishes use authentic Asian ingredients, such as Shiso (a Japanese herb) and Daikon (an oriental radish), which will transport you to another world. These taste sensations can be experienced for £10-£13.

The cuisine at Spice Market is Jean-Georges’ interpretation of the street food experienced during his many trips across South East Asia and this can be seen across all of his menus at the restaurant. If guests are in a hurry they don’t have to miss out on the fine cuisine, as Spice Market also provides an Express Lunch menu. Diners can enjoy lunch within the hour with two courses for £16 and three courses for £18 between 12pm and 4pm.

All the new dishes are available daily on the Lunch menu from 12pm at Spice Market. Try something different and visit Spice Market for fine, fresh food at lunchtime, whatever the occasion. The restaurant is also open nightly for dinner until 11pm Sunday-Wednesday and 11.30pm Thursday-Saturday.
