GO MODERN SPONSOR ACCLAIMED DESIGNER JAMIE DUNSTAN, AT THIS YEAR’S RHS CHELSEA FLOWER SHOW. (STAND RHW45) This year’s RHS Chelsea Flower Show will see award-winning designer, Jamie Dunstan’s show garden, sponsored by contemporary indoor, garden, conservatory, children’s furniture, lighting, eco-fires and home accessory retailer Go Modern. The Go Modern Garden has been designed with a contemporary and eco outlook and will complement Go Modern’s trade stand, also designed by Jamie, selling garden furniture and accessories. Go Modern’s presence at The RHS Chelsea Flower Show (25-29 May) coincides with the launch of its new three floor showroom, which opens its doors on the decorative stretch of the Kings Road at the end of May.
GARDENER’S BOUTIQUE AND GO MODERN
Go Modern will be the sole sponsor of Jamie Dunstan’s garden entry, for the RHS Chelsea Flower Show in 2010. A charismatic and hugely talented character, Jamie runs garden design and retail nursery - Gardener’s Boutique in Braithwell, South Yorkshire, and has been a prominent figure in the gardening world for many years, scooping awards including two RHS Gold medals at Tatton Park in 2005 and 2006 and an RHS Silver-Gilt medal and APL award in 2007. Having featured as a garden design expert across the media in live Radio Question and Answer sessions, articles in local gardening publications, and in a TV series ‘A Garden for all Seasons’ for Living TV, Jamie has carved himself an enviable reputation for his dynamic designs, extensive knowledge and refreshing approach.
The Go Modern Garden by Gardener’s Boutique has been designed by Jamie to create an informal area to relax, whilst surrounded by scented Mediterranean plants. These plants prefer a light, free-draining soil - the exact opposite of the conditions present within the garden. To enable planting of this nature, Jamie has designed a raised area, which will be built using natural stone and free-draining soil. Uniquely, Jamie will use an aggregate type of gravel, created from recycled sinks and loos, which will give the garden its eco focus. An outdoor fireplace will be situated as a focal point with Go Modern’s contemporary furniture surrounding it.
The boundaries will be made from woven oak fencing, which will be softened by Silver Birch planted in rusty steel containers.
A sloping oak walkway will lead visitors through the silver birch providing access to the raised seating area featuring Go Modern’s Clover chairs. The remaining planting will consist of plants that like moist conditions, such as Persicaria Red Dragon, Rodgersia and Podophyllum. A polished stainless steel centre piece will chime with the contemporary nature of Go Modern’s design ethos whilst uniting all the elements of this remarkable garden.
GO MODERN TRADE STAND (STAND RHW3)
Chelsea Flower Show marks the start of summer and what better way to celebrate than by snapping up a piece of Go Modern’s new range of garden furniture at its trade stand? Key pieces from its Summer 2010 collection as well as its existing collection will feature here, with sleek, contemporary designs reflecting Go Modern’s trademark elegance and style.
Amalfi Gazebo - No summer is complete without a daybed and there are few better than this Amalfi model, part of the exclusive Smania garden furniture collection from Italy. It is understated luxury at it’s best – modern, elegant and extremely well made by Smania, Verona. Beautifully designed, with clean lines, the Amalfi Gazebo in teak has polished steel wheels and feet with a choice of four different colours for cushions. Cushions can be ordered in white, taupe, frosty blue and dark blue.
Una Garden Dining – The Una Garden furniture looks like a sleek, stylish indoor dining table and chairs except it’s actually an ultra cool garden collection. Made by Calma, Spain, this high quality garden dining set is made using a lacquered rustproof aluminum and can be ordered in a variety of sizes and finishes. A contemporary and minimalist design - ideal for entertaining.
Flow Modular Garden Collection - This garden furniture collection from Belgium might look like indoor furniture, but is in fact completely weather proof outdoor furniture, made from the same high tech fabric used on smart yachts. Complete with a flawless finish and comfortable fabric, its seams are welded as if sewn so that water will drain away easily. Cushions are available in nautical fabrics, speckle (grey), pebble and a tasteful beige or faux white leather. Designed to be left outdoors all year round, these help create the most elegant outdoor lounge.
GO MODERN’S NEW KINGS ROAD SHOWROOM (Launching end of May)
If you like what you see at the Go Modern garden and stand at RHS Chelsea Flower Show, be sure to pay a visit to its new showroom, at 565 Kings road, SW6 2EB, where an unrivalled collection of contemporary furniture, including garden furniture and accessories, living, dining and bedroom furniture, wardrobes, mirrors and flueless fires, as well as the new Italian children’s range, can be browsed over three floors.

JANE HILTON - DEAD EAGLE TRAIL
Host Gallery presents Jane Hilton’s photographic study of American cowboys in the twenty-first century After a two-decade long love affair with US subject matter, Hilton stumbled upon the inspiration for her latest work during one of her many road trips across the western states of America. The title of her book and exhibition refers to her discovery of a dead Golden Eagle in the middle of the road in Nevada.
The experience inspired her to document and explore one of the most iconic, romantic archetypes of American culture and history, the cowboy and his way of life. Dead Eagle Trail marks Hilton’s empathetic portrayal of the cowboy of the twenty first century. Unlike previous expositions of the American West, Hilton’s subjects are photographed within their own personal environments, surrounded by their collections of artifacts and memorabilia.
During her four and a half year study, an assignment introduced her to a handsome young cowboy called Jeremiah who travelled from Alaska to New Mexico, funding his adventure by breaking in wild horses and taking on stints on ranches. The allure of the Wild West took Hilton to the cowboy states of America where she has documented the lives of many other subjects, capturing their humility, dignity and strength of character. As a reminder of simpler times without the technological trappings of modern life, Dead Eagle Trail celebrates the buckaroos of Nevada to the cowpunchers of Arizona and the question lingers. Will there be cowboys 100 years from now?
The exhibition of Dead Eagle Trail runs from 21 April – 21 May 2010 at Host Gallery, 1 Honduras Street, London, EC1Y 0TH The book is published by Schilt Publishing (distributed by Thames and Hudson) on 3 May 2010.
REAL FOOD FESTIVAL 7-10 MAY 2010
See, smell and taste fabulous, sustainably and ethically produced food direct from smaller producers The Real Food Festival 2010, which will take place in London‘s Earls Court 7-10 May 2010, will once again top the food event calendar as the must-attend event of the year. Celebrating its third anniversary, the Real Food Festival, is much, much more than a food or farmers market. Packed with events for the whole family, including some very friendly livestock, the Real Food Festival provides a platform to showcase smaller producers for whom attendance at such shows are costly and unrealistic. The festival provides subsidised stands for these producers offering the visitor a one to one introduction to Britain’s real food heroes.
At the festival, there will be
· The Real Food market
· Master chefs in action
· Chocolate Unwrapped
Tickets cost £9.50 in advance and £15.00 on the door. Under 16’s go free.

NEW RESTAURANTS AT WESTFIELD LONDON
Westfield has signed a host of new cafes and restaurants for Westfield London, completing the dining offer at the centre and rounding off the leisure and lifestyle mix following the launch of the Vue cinema which has been consistently amongst the top performing cinemas in the UK since it opened in February.
New signings include Jamie’s Italian, Mandaloun, Royal China, Café Isola Bella, Zaza and Shawa. In addition, following an unprecedented first year of trading, Caffe Concerto and Searcy’s are both expanding their offer within the centre.
Michael Gutman, Westfield’s Managing Director UK/Europe, said: “This diverse mix of restaurants represents the extensive range of food, retail and leisure we have at Westfield London which has been further boosted by the recent opening of the state of the art Vue cinema. The cinema has exceeded all expectations and, together with these new signings and the extensive range of events and activities within the centre, completes Westfield London’s evening offer.”
The Southern Terrace dining street is now 100% let following these latest signings and the recent openings of food-led pub The Bull, Malaysian offering Jom Makan and French restaurant LPDJ.
Caffe Concerto is opening a full line restaurant to complement its existing offer within the centre. The new restaurant, featuring an exclusive piano bar with live jazz, is located in the upper level of The Village.
This coincides with the extension of Searcy’s Champagne Bar on the lower level of The Village after the bar has exceeded expectations since opening at centre launch in 2008.
Jamie’s Italian, Mandaloun and Royal China are opening on the Southern Terrace – the
centre’s external dining street.
Jamie’s Italian will be the fourteenth restaurant in the group which has locations throughout the UK and will be the third in London. Simon Blagden, Managing Director of Jamie’s Italian, said: “Westfield London has proven itself to be one of the most successful retail centres in Europe over the last year, so it’s a natural fit for Jamie’s Italian and we can’t wait to open.”
Mandaloun Westfield is the fourth installment of one of the most vibrant “nouvelle vague” of Lebanese restaurants. With locations in Chelsea, Fulham and in the USA, the group is redefining Mediterranean dining.
Zack Barakat, managing director of the group, said: “Mandaloun is the epitome of new Mediterranean cuisine. We combine the freshest ingredients to create original and healthy dishes that have their roots in Lebanese cuisine. Westfield is a destination experience where people go not only to shop but to experiment various culinary and cultural delights. Mandaloun aims to deliver a similar feast. Our Westfield restaurant will be our flagship venue, where customers can expect to be taken on a journey of senses and succulent delicacies. Our design is crisp and innovative, while comfortable and accommodating for any occasions. From lounging to shawarma grill and fine dining, we cater for the most demanding and discerning crowds.”
Royal China will be opening its first venture within a shopping centre at Westfield London. Lawrence Cheng of Royal China said: “Westfield is our first shopping centre venture in the UK and we aim to guide our approach with a slight twist to what most would regard as a typical Royal China restaurant. Whilst we maintain to satisfy our customers in terms of meeting their expectations in quality dim cum as well as authentic Chinese cuisines, we enhance Royal China Westfield with our Four Seasons BBQ specials. Top quality food is what we hope to offer to our customers and our menu makes available as wide a range of popular choices as possible. I look forward to opening a Royal China with a Four Seasons BBQ twist and seeing people enjoy their dining in Royal China Four Seasons.”
Finally, Israeli chef Leor Nissim is opening Café Isola Bella – the centre’s first fully kosher restaurant. This latest venture will be the flagship venue in a chain of specialist boutique restaurants which already comprises three well established restaurants in North West London. World renowned architects and designers have collaborated to create a stunning new bar, café and restaurant which will be located within the Village, overlooking the Southern Terrace.
Leor Nissim said: “Café Isola Bella Westfield will be very special. The interior has been designed by one of the most talented design teams in Israel, and their attention to detail has helped to ensure this restaurant will be the ideal daytime haven for shopaholics, their friends and children, and a great leisure venue late into the evening. It’s not only the décor that will be special though, the food will be of the very highest order too.
“I fully expect Café Isola Bella Westfield to establish a reputation as the finest luxury kosher dining experience, unrivalled for quality or value anywhere in Europe.” Zaza and Shawa are also opening new units within the main centre. All of the new restaurants will be opening between now and the summer
THE SUMMERHOUSE POPS UP FOR SUMMER
This summer will see the arrival of an innovative pop-up concept to London in the form of The Summerhouse. Open for a six-month period between April and October, The Summerhouse will be idyllically situated along the banks of Little Venice’s canal and will consequently have a nautical theme, serving delicious seafood in a space reminiscent of a Hampton’s beach house.
Brought to London by leading dining operators, First Restaurant Group, The Summerhouse will be their second venue in leafy Maida Vale. The popular Waterway is located just a few paces away and has a constant demand for outside tables during the summer months. The Summerhouse will offer an additional 60 covers and is situated directly on the water. It will however, have its own very distinct identity in comparison to its sister venue.
The restaurant will have a light and airy décor, based around the large Long Island seafront houses that well-healed New Yorkers retreat to during the sweltering summer months. The walls will have a clean, whitewashed appearance and blue and white stripes, checks, glass bottles and jars will be used throughout to create an atmosphere of comfortable beachside chic. The Summerhouse has its own boat mooring space so those making river trips can stop off and enjoy a leisurely riverside meal.
Summer is the time to enjoy seafood and The Summerhouse will offer everything from fish and chips to mussels. Starters will include; New England Clam Chowder, Prawn and Avocado Cocktail with Bloody Mary Sauce and Best Ever Popcorn Shrimp with Sweet Chilli Sauce. Choose from a selection of mains such as Swordfish Steak in Ciabbata with Mango Salsa and Wasabi Mayonnaise, Grilled Halibut Darne with Béarnaise Sauce and the signature, The Summerhouse Fish Pie. For those looking for a lighter lunch there will be a delicious selection of salads offered, as well as gourmet snacks offered in the separate bar area. Round off the perfect summertime meal with some truly indulgent desserts including; Knickerbocker Glory, Pimms Jelly with Vanilla Ice Cream and Iced Summer Berries with Hot White Chocolate Sauce.
There will be an extensive and refreshing drinks menu at the Summerhouse. Cocktails will include The Waterside Cooler, a heady blend of Havana Rum, Fresh Lime Juice, Orange Liqueur and topped with Ginger Beer and The Maida Mojito, a local adaptation of the classic cocktail made with Belvedere Vodka, Fresh Lime Juice, Sugar Syrup and Cranberry Juice. A great international wine selection will be available, with a particular emphasis on rosé, white and sparkling wines.
Once closed in October the venue will become a dedicated events space until reopening next spring. It will be ideal for any type of event, whether private or corporate. The space will accommodate up to 100 people and will offer great views and outside space. First Restaurant Group Managing Director Mitchell Tillman says of the launch:
“We are really looking forward to opening The Summerhouse. Most pop-up restaurants only last for a matter of weeks but ours will be a six-month feature of the great British summertime. We hope you come and enjoy the warm weather with us on the terrace this year and for many more years to come.”

ARTWORK inspired by the iconic Godrevy Lighthouse goes on display at the National Maritime Museum Cornwall on June 3 in a captivating new exhibition entitled Godrevy Light.
Charles Thomas and Jessica Mann began collecting these works over 50 years ago, when they met and fell in love on an archaeological dig at Godrevy. The couple have collected various works of art, poetry and objects depicting the lighthouse ever since they met, including pieces by artists such as Bryan Pearce, Wilhelmina Barns-Graham and Kurt Jackson.
Godrevy Lighthouse has seen considerable changes along the north coast and the exhibition includes artwork showing 1780s St Ives, buzzing with marine activity, right up to a 2003 Kurt Jackson piece displaying the calms of the St Ives coast.
Jessica Mann says: “Godrevy Lighthouse has become an icon, it is one of the images that represents Cornwall. This exhibition will give people an insight to the magic of the lighthouse which Charles has known all his life and I first saw over 50 years ago.”
Godrevy Light opens on the June 3 and runs until the August 29 at the National Maritime Museum Cornwall, in Falmouth.
