Cowes WeekFULL STEAM AHEAD FOR COWES WEEK 2010 - 31 JULY - 7 AUGUST 2010
Don the deck shoes, hoist the sails – it’s time for Cowes Week 2010 to take to the water! Cowes on the Isle of Wight will come to life from 31 July – 7 August as one of the UK’s longest running sporting events and the world’s best-known sailing regatta begins. Cowes is expecting more than 100,000 spectators, over 8,000 competitors and up to 1,000 boats racing in over 40 different classes to grace its shores this summer.
2010 promises to be one of the most exciting Cowes Weeks yet, with the hugely anticipated 1851 Cup bringing together the British America’s Cup team, TEAMORIGIN, and current defenders of the America’s Cup trophy, US team BMW ORACLE Racing, for some spectacular match racing. Also watch out for the Extreme Sailing Series where the dynamic Extreme 40 catamarans will race at up to 45mph, within inches of the shoreline.

If watching all the action isn’t enough for you, you can try dipping your toe in the water with Try Sailing. Under the guiding hand of qualified instructors from the UKSA, complete beginners can enjoy a sailing taster lesson for just £5. Or, if you are feeling competitive, why not have a go at 'Come Racing' – an initiative that enables you to have a go at racing on a Laser SB3 with a professional skipper after the main Cowes Week fleets have finished for the day, for only £10!

For those of you that haven’t found your sea legs there is also plenty to do onshore; throughout the week live music and entertainment will be provided (for free!) at Cowes Parade and Cowes Yacht Haven (except fireworks night which will be ticketed).

The finale for the week’s entertainment is on Friday with a show-stopping Red Arrows display followed by the renowned Cowes Week Fireworks.

Getting there
Red Funnel operates a hi-speed ferry service (23 minutes) between Cowes and Southampton giving fast and easy access to the excitement of Cowes Week. Trains from London to Southampton take little more than an hour, and motorway links with the rest of the UK are excellent. In addition, a dedicated Cowes Week ferry service also operates between Lymington and Cowes, courtesy of Blue Funnel.

Cost
It is free to attend Cowes Week as a spectator although some venues may require an entrance fee on fireworks night.

95.8 CAPITAL FM’S GREG BURNS SAYS “BE ‘QUIDS IN’ THIS SUMMER AND HELP A LONDON CHILD WITH GOURMET BURGER KITCHEN
Gourmet Burger Kitchen (gbk), Help a London Child and 95.8 Capital FM have teamed up once again to re-launch their iconic fundraising campaign ‘Quids In’ that is guaranteed to get your mouth watering this summer.
If you’ve dedicated all your summer savings to a getaway holiday, then why not have a meal on gbk. From 19th July, simply log on to http://www.capitalfm.com/gbk, download a voucher and take it to your nearest gbk restaurant, buy one burger or main course salad and get a second for just £1! GBK will then donate that £1 to 95.8 Capital FM’s Help a London Child, who offers financial support to grass-root projects for London’s less advantaged children. If that’s not exciting enough, when you download your voucher you’ll be entered into the draw to win an amazing camper van dream trip for two to New Zealand with £1000 spending money, courtesy of Air New Zealand, Tourism New Zealand, Pacific Horizon and Steinlager Pure. Just visit http://www.capitalfm.com/gbk and register your details!

GBK’s sizzling summer menu will satisfy all your cravings with a diverse range of delicious burgers and salads. For those seeking a more exotic bite why not try the Jamaican burger - a 100% Aberdeen Angus burger topped with tangy yet sweet mango and ginger sauce, salad and mayonnaise; whilst the adventurous diner should be sure to attempt the Mexican with lashings of sour cream, avocado, spicy kidney bean salsa, mayonnaise & salad. Whatever the dish, gbk burgers and salads are a treat to get you in the mood for summer, and with the Help a London Child promotion running from 19th July until the end of August, there is plenty of time to munch your way through the menu, and do your bit to help those in need.
Last year’s ‘Quids In’ campaign raised over £80,000 which allowed Help a London Child to provide financial support to at least 40 grass roots projects working with disadvantaged children in the capital city. With the re-launch of the voucher this summer, gbk hopes to raise at least the same again so Help a London Child can reach out to even more young people giving them the opportunity to enjoy the childhood that everyone deserves.
Help a London Child supporter and Capital Drivetime presenter, Greg Burns, said: “It’s fantastic that gbk are giving Londoners the chance to be ‘Quids In’ again this summer. What an amazing incentive to get involved – not just a meal for £1 but also the chance to win a trip to New Zealand! Plus you’ll be helping us raise much needed cash to make a difference to the lives of disadvantaged children right here in our capital city.”

Amongst great leather tote bags, stunning leather luggage the club room presents some of the most sublime sporting silver trophies straight from the Thomas Lyte Silver workshops.

The store’s interior scheme is based on a concept of ‘heritage with a modern twist’ which reflects the strong Arts and Crafts values of Thomas Lyte. The exciting new space is navigated by following dramatic floral streams which have been extracted from the Thomas Lyte logo. NEW FOR JULY - DoubleWear Zero Smudge Curling Mascara
Instantly Curl, Lift and Define Lashes with Eye-Opening Effects that Last All Day
Awaken eyes instantly with Estée Lauder’s new Double Wear Zero-Smudge Curling Mascara. The latest addition to the Double Wear line of high-performing, long-wearing products for face, eyes and lips, this innovative, new mascara was specifically designed for Asian women’s eye shape and lash line to provide an immediate “awakening” effect to eyes but also works beautifully on everyone.

Combining advanced formula and unique brush design, Double Wear Zero-Smudge Curling Mascara curls, lifts and defines lashes from root to tip for a beautiful, glossy, eye-opening look that won’t smudge, budge, flake or smear and lasts all day!

Advanced Formula Double Wear Zero-Smudge Curling Mascara’s innovative formula maintains its curled effect for up to 15 hours, resisting heat, humidity and sweat during use. Thanks to the formula’s unique “double-lifting effect”, lashes instantly “wake up” with a defining lifted look and maintain their lifted appearance for up to 15 hours.
A complex of multiple polymers help to create both the immediate and lasting lifting effect of this innovative mascara. A fast former polymer immediately forms a strong, uniform film over lashes and delivers the instant lifting and curling effect, while a lasting former copolymer complex then works to increase the film’s strength, so that the curling and lifting effect is secured and maintained throughout the day.

In addition, this long lasting former copolymer complex has volumising properties that, when combined with smoothing powders, help thicken each lash, create a visually defined look and help enable a smooth glide through the lashes with no clumping. Lastly, panthenol works to condition lashes so lashes maintain a healthy and resilient glossy appearance.

Unique Brush Design
Double Wear Zero-Smudge Curling Mascara’s unique, curved, non-tapered brush was specially designed to comfortably fit the contours and curve of the Asian woman’s eye shape and lash line. Easily reaching from the root to the tip of the lash, the curve of the brush maximises the formula’s eye-opening curling and lifting effects, while delivering exceptional definition and separation to lashes. The brush’s unique design also makes it possible to deposit ample formula to each lash effortlessly and uniformly without any clumping.

Double Wear Zero-Smudge Curling Mascara is available in black and brown. Ophthalmologist tested, fragrance free, safe for contact wearers, Double Wear Zero-Smudge Curling Mascara removes easily with warm water or Estée Lauder’s Take it Away Total Makeup Remover.
NEW Double Wear Zero-Smudge Curling Mascara will preview in the UK and Ireland on 19th July 2010 at all Estee Lauder counters nationwide and online at www.esteelauder.co.uk before launching globally.

NEW GLASGOW iPHONE APP HAS FINGER ON PULSE OF CITY’S STYLE MILE

· Real-time Special Offers and Discounts
· User-Friendly A-Z Directory of style mile businesses
· Integrated Google Maps

Glasgow City Marketing Bureau (GCMB) has launched a bespoke, real-time app for the iPhone, iTouch and iPad, which gives information on more than 600 businesses on the style mile.

With its finger on the pulse of the city’s style mile, the free-to-download app provides details of real-time special offers and discounts for businesses in the popular district and also features sections on attractions, restaurants, bars, cafés, going out, looking good and of course shopping.

In addition, the user-friendly A-Z directory and integrated google mapping feature will ensure locals and visitors alike never get lost for ideas and get the most out of any trip to Glasgow’s style mile.

Scott Taylor, Chief Executive - Glasgow City Marketing Bureau, said: “GCMB is committed to utilising new technology to promote the city’s attractions to a local and international audience as well as enhancing the visitor experience.

“The creation of the style mile app, with its real-time information, demonstrates once again that Glasgow is ahead of the innovation curve and reinforces our credentials as the largest retail centre in the UK outside London’s West End.”

Glasgow Chamber of Commerce chief executive, Stuart Patrick, added: “It’s important that we build on the success of being named as the second best shopping destination in the UK in the recent CACI survey and initiatives such as the style mile app will allow us to do just that. The new technology can only help boost Glasgow's profile and play a key role in helping secure further inward investment."

Susan Nicol, General Manager of St. Enoch Centre, which has recently undergone a £120 million transformation, commented: “With specialist boutiques, unique fashion spaces and major retailers, cosmopolitan cocktail bars, cool cafes and refined dining, there’s a lot to see and do in Glasgow’s style mile. The difficult thing is trying to pack everything in!

“The new app acts as your own personal shopping guide – helping seek out special offers and, for those who’re visiting the city, steering them in the right direction.”

The style mile app has been developed by Glasgow digital marketing agency Nation1. Group Managing Director, Andrew Grant, said: “Our developers have designed the style mile app platform so that information can be easily updated online by all the individual businesses featured.

“This real time app is a great example of technology being worked hard to deliver a user-friendly product for Glasgow businesses and customers.”

Leading provider of contact centre services, Bellcom assisted GCMB with the compilation of information: Bellcom’s Managing Director, Varry McMenemy, said: “We develop tailored contact centre solutions for clients all over the world but have to say we have been thrilled to work with GCMB on the new style mile app for our home city.

“Our team is passionate about Glasgow and Bellcom’s location on the style mile not only made us ideally placed to work on the project but our local knowledge also ensured that we were able to help collate and compile the best offers with the team at GCMB.”

The style mile app for the iPhone, iTouch and the new iPad can be downloaded free from the new, revamped style mile website at: http://www.glasgowstylemile.com/

All of the information and real-time offers contained on the app can also be downloaded direct from the website.

NEW HAUNT FOR EAST LONDON’S ARTISTIC COMMUNITY - VIAJANTE BAR OPENS AT TOWN HALL HOTEL
Viajante Bar, residing on the ground floor of the historic Town Hall Hotel in the heart of London’s vibrant East End, officially opened its doors this month. Adjacent to Nuno Mendes’ highly-acclaimed restaurant of the same name, Viajante Bar continues to reflect Mendes’ philosophy by offering clean and interesting cocktails as well as modern and unique bar food.

Viajante Bar offers classic lounge furniture with a contemporary twist arranged in clusters creating an intimate experience. The hand crafted tables and chairs were designed exclusively for the bar by Rare Architecture, who also collaborated with Parisian designer Tzuri Gueta to design the bar’s fantastical chandelier art-installation. Best known for his haute couture design work with design powerhouses Dior, Givenchy and Armani, Gueta’s silicone technique of creating light with texture is used to create the centrepiece which hangs over the bar. The original sash arched windows embodies the building’s heritage whilst Gueta’s black lampshades with internal multi-coloured silicone create a contemporary interpretation of traditional wall and ceiling ornaments.

Overseen by head mixologist Warren Lee who honed several years experience at Zuma and Hakkasan, Viajante Bar offers an innovative and interesting cocktail menu starting from just £7. The signature Nomad Martini, comprises Akvinta vodka thrown with fino sherry, Aperol and bitters garnished with grapefruit, sits alongside classics such as the Singapore Sling. The bar also offers an international assortment of spirits and liquors including Fernet from Argentina and Aba Pisco from Chile. Rare aged whiskies are also available such as the Balvenie 21yr Port Cask and the Old Pulteney 17yr from Scotland and Yamasaki 18yr from Japan. Viajante also holds the very last bottle of Martell Creation Cognac in the UK for those wanting something truly exclusive. An extensive wine list and impressive range of bottled beer is also available.

Cocktails and drinks take precedence here, with Nuno Mendes regularly creating ‘small plates’ to compliment drinks rather than the tradition of matching food with wine. Some of Mendes favourites include the Lobster and bacon club roll and Scallop, celeriac and shitake mushroom pizza. Available from 12pm to 12am, the bar menu also includes highlights such as Dry aged beef burger served with vanilla onions, stilton, brioche and crispy roots or Beetroot tartare, classic garnishes and Mozzarella bubbles. For those with a sweet tooth experience Mendes’ White chocolate and blackcurrant box or the Green tea and praline cigare.

Viajante Bar is housed in the Grade II listed former Bethnal Green Town Hall. After an extensive restoration and refurbishment over four years, entrepreneur and hotelier Peng Loh, has transformed this landmark into a 98 room hotel complete with Viajante restaurant and bar. The opening of Town Hall and Viajante brings modern design to dynamic East London, casting a light on this burgeoning urban part of London and its smorgasbord of cultural activity.

Viajante Bar is located on Patriot Square, E2. For further information please visit www.viajante.co.uk
