Guests are invited to glide across the ice under the silhouette of London’s most iconic landmark, where they can also opt to experience the London Eye or the London Eye River Cruise to enjoy the best of London’s Christmas offerings.

The Eyeskate rink will open with a breathtaking, free performance of the well-renowned Nutcracker on Ice on Friday 18th November at 4pm. Choreographed and performed by the National Ice Skating Association, this enchanting display will bring a sprinkle of festive charm upon guests to the London Eye and passers-by on the South Bank. As the skaters expertly dazzle the audience to the Sugarplum songs, spectators won’t be able to resist the magical mood.

For an additional flutter of festive frolicking the EDF Energy London Eye will host a Spectacular Skate-Off on Sunday 4th December at 11am. This free-to-enter, open-to-all* competition, judged by the head choreographers at the National Ice Skating Association, will see budding ice-skaters competing to win. All those who take part in the challenge will receive a complimentary ticket to the London Eye, but the real prize for the winner is being named the London Eye’s ice-skating champion.

Further in-season indulgences will abound at the EDF Energy London Eye this Christmas, as guests are invited to toast the winter cheer and embrace that festive feeling.

New for this Christmas is the Vinopolis Pommery Champagne Tasting Experience. Guests are invited to sample five elegant Champagnes, as experts from Vinopolis, the top London wine and Champagne tasting venue, guide them through the selection. Take-home notes are also provided, to ensure visitors can impress friends at their own Christmas parties.

Individual Mulled Wine Experiences are also on offer, ideal for small groups, couples or families to enjoy a cosy winter warmer. Alternatively, the Mulled Wine and Mince Pies Private Capsule, allows guests to sip on a warming glass of the season’s favourite beverage and devour delicious mince pies, all in their own private capsule.

For those who like to add a touch of glamour to their Christmas celebrations, the Champagne Capsule is the perfect way to indulge. Guests can relax and enjoy feeling spoiled as the host serves chilled Pommery Brut Royale Champagne with the option to add canapés, nibbles or mince pies.
Perfect for amorous couples, the Mistletoe Cupid’s Capsule provides the ultimate romantic opportunity to take in the stunning skyline and indulge that special someone. FROM SKATING AND ICE SCULPTING TO SHOPPING AND SANTA CLAUS, CANARY WHARF HAS CHRISTMAS WRAPPED UP

The iconic, cosmopolitan Canary Wharf will be buzzing with Christmas cheer over the winter months with a stellar line-up of festive events and an impressive 200 shops, bars and restaurants offering tempting treats and an array of gifts, perfect for under the tree.

Returning for the 7th year, the spectacular Canary Wharf Ice Rink – London’s longest running ice rink - will welcome skaters from Saturday 12 November 2011 to Sunday 19 February 2012. Nestled beneath the iconic towers of Canary Wharf and surrounded by twinkling Christmas lights and an impressive 200 shops, bars and restaurants, the rink can accommodate up to 225 skaters. Whether you are looking for a picturesque glide under starry skies, expert tuition from a private tutor or an unusual alternative to the traditional Christmas office party, the rink offers arguably the best outdoor skating facilities in London.

For little ones brimming with holiday spirit, Canary Wharf offers an array of magical events and performances to enchant even the most lively and excitable of children. Celebrations kick off with Santa’s Arrival Weekend on Saturday 3 and Sunday 4 December 2011, as Santa’s Grotto - a spectacular sleigh pulled by two giant reindeer – arrives in Jubilee Place. With Santa in residence every weekend throughout December and during the final week before Christmas, there is plenty of time to tell him your Christmas wishes and support the Richard House Children’s Hospice, who receive a donation for every child that visits.

On Saturday 3 and Sunday 4 December 2011, Santa and his friends will also be busy entertaining in Canary Wharf’s East Wintergarden at Santa’s Showtime, a spectacular free festive show for all the family to enjoy. Elsewhere, those ‘Little Helpers’ looking for a more hands-on activity should visit the shopping malls for free art and craft workshops and face painting, running every weekend throughout December.

With the children busy preparing for the festive season ahead, why not take the opportunity to go Christmas shopping. The annual festive shopping event returns on Thursday 1 December 2011, with fashion shows, on-stage entertainment, demonstrations, tempting in-store discounts and goodie bag giveaways enticing Christmas shoppers to both Cabot Place and Jubilee Place.

With an impressive array of luxury and aspirational brands including Tiffany & Co, Links of London, Jo Malone, Molton Brown, Aquascutum, Hackett, Myla and Jaeger London, Canary Wharf has something for everyone, whether it’s a gift for a loved one or that perfect party dress for the celebrations ahead.

Looking to 2012, Canary Wharf will once again host the world-class London Ice Sculpting Festival from Thursday 12 - Saturday 14 January 2012, welcoming international artists back to Canary Wharf for a fantastic three days of fast-paced sculpting, chiselling and carving. Alongside this, Canary Wharf’s annual Winter Lights installation sees artist and architect Daan Roosegaarde’s Marbles light up the ice-filled Jubilee Park throughout the festival and on into March (from Monday 9 January – Friday 2 March). Unveiled for the very first time, these spectacular glowing Marbles will interact with passers-by, making sounds and changing colour as you approach!

Camille Waxer, Chief Administrative Officer at Canary Wharf Group plc comments: “Canary Wharf really comes alive at Christmas. With so many unique festive events, one of the London’s best ice rinks and a first-class retail and restaurant offering, Canary Wharf buzzes from the moment the Christmas lights turn on to when the last skater leaves the ice in February.”

FASHION ROYALTY JENNY PACKHAM LAUNCHES EXCLUSIVE WEDDING FAVOURS FOR CANCER RESEARCH UK

LUXURY wedding dress designer and stylist to the stars, Jenny Packham, whose stunning dresses have recently been worn by the Duchess of Cambridge, has designed a set of limited edition pin badges exclusively for Cancer Research UK’s wedding favours range.

There is a choice of three unique designs: a pretty pink and silver shooting star; a silver swallow; and a bluebird pin badge (available from February 2012) all complete with diamantés. All the designs are in keeping with the designer’s art-deco look, making a stylish addition to any couple’s big day.

Those planning to tie the knot can order a pin badge for every guest along with personalised favour cards incorporating the bride and groom’s names and wedding date. The badges can be pinned to the cards or can complement more traditional favours.

All the charity asks is that couples ordering the favours make a suggested donation of £2.50 per guest , which goes towards Cancer Research UK’s lifesaving work.

These limited edition wedding favours are a meaningful keepsake, and a unique way to add the perfect finishing touch to your big day. They also offer a subtle way for the bride and groom to celebrate a friend or family member surviving cancer, or to remember someone close to them.

Jenny Packham said: ‘’I’m thrilled with the designs. On the surface they are pretty accessories for someone’s big day that could fit into any stylish wedding or special occasion, but there’s much more to it – it will help Cancer Research UK fund their vital research into beating cancer, a disease that affects more than one in three of us at some point in our lives. “

Thanks to research, more people are surviving cancer than ever before and Cancer Research UK has been at the heart of that progress. However there is a lot more work to be done.

Jenny Packham added “Being surrounded by all your friends and family is rarely more important than on your wedding day so I can’t think of a better way to give thanks for that. I hope that everyone who orders the pin badges enjoys them- and that they give generously, remembering that their contribution will help save lives.’’

THE FULTON ‘REMBRELLA’
Lieutenant-Colonel Graham Parker, O.B.E and Royal Warrant Rainwear Specialists Fulton Umbrellas are proud to present a remembrance umbrella

Fulton, Britain’s leading rainwear specialist and Royal Warrant holder, is proud to remember the heroes of the First World War and support the Poppy Appeal with a limited edition rememberance umbrella, the Rembrella.

The idea of retired Lieutenant-Colonel Graham Parker, O.B.E., this umbrella was created to act as a vivid reminder of Remembrance all year round, inspired by Graham’s rainy Armistice Day walk to commemorate the 80th Anniversary of the 1915 battles in the Ypres Salient.

The idea for The Poppy Umbrella came to Graham on 11 November 1995 as he was leading The Poppy Parade in Ypres, Belgium. It was a wet Armistice Day and the sight of assorted umbrellas combined with the image of poppies on the First World War battlefields inspired his idea for the Poppy Umbrella . The design of a single red poppy on the umbrella cover was created by Graham’s daughter Joanna.

“In Flanders Fields the poppies blow, between the crosses, row on row...” John McCrae

Sales of this practical and eye-catching umbrella help to generate funds for Service-related charities. Available from www.rembrella.co.uk, 50p of each umbrella sold will be donated to the “Help for Heroes” charity.

CABANA BRASILIAN BARBECUE TO LAUNCH THIS MONTH

Seasoned restaurateurs Jamie Barber (Hush, Kitchen Italia, Villandry and Sake No Hana) and David Ponté (Momo, Mocoto) have teamed up to launch CABANA: a relaxed, vibrant and affordable new Brasilian barbecue restaurant that will open both at Westfield Stratford City today and at Central St Giles on Saturday 19th November, the colourful new London development designed by Renzo Piano.

Ponté, who was born in Rio, has channelled his knowledge and love of Brasilian cuisine and culture into this latest venture which takes its cue from the traditional Brasilian churrascarias and local snacks found on most Brasilian street corners from Sao Paulo to Salvador. CABANA’s menu will be Barber and Ponté’s take on the best of Brasil. These dishes, which can be eaten as a starter or throughout the meal, include the popular Brasilian cheese dough balls known as Pao de Queijo as well as Cheese Pastels and Chicken Coxinhas.

‘Cabanistas’ will circulate the room with colour coded barbecue skewers offering choices of meat such as Malagueta marinated chicken thighs, Baby Back Sticky Ribs and Chimichurri Black Gold Rump Steak, as well as a number of vegetarian options including Giant Portobello Mushrooms with Halloumi Cheese. Menus will be stamped according to which skewers have been enjoyed and customers will be able to flip a disc from green to red to indicate when they are finished or simply taking a break.

CABANA will also house its own frozen yoghurt bar. Frozen yoghurt stalls are as common on Brasilian city streets as coffee shops are in the UK. CABANA’s refreshing frozen yoghurt - in flavours ranging from Peanut & Cashew to Dulce de Leite and the fruit of the month - will be available throughout the day both to eat in and take away.

CABANA will also offer a list of Brasilian and Portuguese beers including Sagres on tap. Trays of ? pint glasses will circulate the room, with the beer characteristically cold at -2 ° following the tradition in Brasil. The central bar will also have a selection of Brasilian favourites such as the national drink of choice, Caipirinha, in several flavours.

It’s not just the food that has taken inspiration from Brasil, designer Alex Michaelis has ensured that the Brasilian spirit runs throughout the two restaurants with an aged and hand-made feel. With two sites opening almost simultaneously, CABANA plans to embrace the Brasilian vibe, with banquettes created from recycled jeans from Sao Paulo favelas, walls lined with Brasilian printed posters and scaffold plank wood flooring. Both sites are similar in size with large, open terraces all year and indoor seating for roughly 100 people. CABANA will not take bookings on tables less than 6 people.

THE SPANISH TAKEOVER: A TAPAS REVOLUTION LIGHTING UP THE FOOD SCENE

The Tapas Revolution continues, as young talented chef Omar Allibhoy announces his plan to open a second Madrid-style all-day tapas bar. Due to popular demand, the new Tapas Revolution will open in Bluewater, a leading retail, leisure and events destination on the week of 14h November.

This second branch is located in Bluewater’s much anticipated Plaza and is set to match the huge success of critically acclaimed Tapas Revolution in Westfield London (Shepherd’s Bush), which opened last year.

The new Tapas Revolution will create the same buzz and excitement in Bluewater, as it has to Westfield over the last year. Guests will be able to start the day with a Spanish style ‘Full English Breakfast’ (chorizo, patatas bravas, egg and toast), or enjoy tapas y vinos (tapas with wine) for lunch or dinner, pick up an authentic bocadillo (sandwich), grab a Churros Con Chocolate if they are on the move, or sip on a refreshing glass of Cava whilst taking in the Spanish ambience.

The passionate 27-year-old chef, promises to use only the freshest ingredients in his kitchen and will also source key produce from small farms in Spain, including Jamon Iberico, traditional cheeses, chorizo and charcuterie. Award-winning Sommelier, Bruno Murciano has joined forces with Omar to carefully select regional Spanish wines to complement the tapas on the menu, which will all be available by the glass.

"Bluewater is a great location to open our next Tapas Revolution and I'm sure our visitors will experience what it's truly like to eat at an authentic tapas bar. It’s always been important for me to show the British public quality but affordable Spanish food and I believe Tapas Revolution achieves just that. Opening a second tapas bar is a great opportunity to continue spreading the word about great Spanish tapas and will bring the real taste of Spain to Kent.” Says Omar.

A cool new cocktail bar and lounge is set to arrive in central London. Archer Street will be South Soho’s best-kept secret, taking on the sophisticated style of a members-only club but open to all those in-the-know.

The luxurious, laidback lounging areas will be set over two floors and dotted with comfortable velvet sofas and button-back armchairs. The upstairs bar features large French windows, distressed wood paneling and plush velvet stools. The downstairs area has a playful and après ski feel with reclaimed rafter board walls, stripy cushions, quirky mirrors, and a long bar covered in antiqued steel panels. Renowned Italian restaurant, Bocca di Lupo and the soon to open Firmdale Hotel will be close neighbours.

Each invited host can choose the theme of the evening and select the play-list of the DJ as well as take a turn behind the bar.

As the first exclusive Billecart-Salmon Champagne bar in London, Archer Street will have an expertly devised drinks menu, featuring exclusive cocktail concoctions including; their signature Dawa, a Kenyan drink which translates as “magic potion” and is made with vodka, lime, honey and brown sugar and Champagne in Yorkshire, a bubbly blend of champagne, gin, rhubarb liquor and syrup. There is also a refined and diverse wine list as well as healthier drinks made with miracle ingredients such as coconut water.

Popping up again this December, downstairs at Clerkenwell’s favourite gastropub is The Well’s Christmas Swedish Ski Lodge.
