HERE COME THE GIRLS! CELEBRITIES UNITE TO TAKE PART IN THE UK’S LARGEST WOMEN-ONLY 5K RUN AND UNITE TO FIGHT BREAST CANCER
This year a host of female celebrities are taking part in the UK’s biggest women-only 5K fun run, in London’s Hyde Park on Sunday 5th September 2010 in support of Breakthrough Breast Cancer.
Television presenter Sarah Cawood, Hollyoaks actress Nathalie Emmanuel (who plays the character Sasha Valentine), Skins star Lisa Blackwell (who played the character Pandora), Eastenders actress Simone James (who plays the character Becca) will all run alongside thousands of mothers, sisters and daughters to raise money for a cause close to their hearts.
Also running for Breakthrough Breast Cancer are fitness experts Deanne Berry and Angie Dowds, actress and best selling author Emma Kennedy, model and actress Jo Emma Larvin, actress Lucy Briggs-Owen, and presenter Jacqui Joseph
Sarah Cawood said “I'm so excited to be running this year's adidas Women's 5K Challenge in support of Breakthrough Breast Cancer. 1) What inspired you to set up your own business?
It really happened by accident! Having spent my early days working for VOGUE in London and Sydney, I have always had a passion for clothes and accessories and had wanted to something creative but the timing was never right. When my husband organised a surprise holiday to India where we had spent our honeymoon and where I had spent much of my childhood, the buzz of the markets and the fabulous fabrics, colours and embellishments available was really the initial inspiration to create the label.
2) What do you most enjoy about running your own company?
There are lots of aspects that I love, particularly the challenges. There are real highs and lows, but when new orders come in or a client wants a collection produced, I still get the same thrill as I did when I started the brand.
3) What have been your best sellers this season?
Apart from the Seychelles Maxi Dress and children's pieces, we have recently started to stock THE HAMPTONS suncare range which is absolutely divine. All the products are made from natural, organic ingredients and I am a complete convert to their products. I particularly love the Super Hydrating Face Cream and the Serious Shimmer Cooling Bronze Spray.
4) What are you most proud of in your career, or life to date?
It has to be my husband and two children who have been very supportive and long suffering!
5) What advice would you give to someone thinking of running their own business?
Don't let a bad day or week get you down, always look at the bigger picture. Keep going!
6) What three items would you pack for a capsule beach holiday wardrobe?
Our Gabriella beach cover up, a couple of maxi dresses for the evening and a good selection of bikinis. And of course a great book!
7) Describe your perfect holiday.
Staying on the secluded Kizingoni Beach in Lamu (Kusini being my favourite beach house). We always have our happiest holidays there and it is the perfect place to regroup as a family. Days are spent either lazing on the beach or poppng across to Manda Bay for lunch on the boat followed by a bit of retail therapy at my favourite shop called Aman. There are no cars on the island so we go everywhere by boat. Evenings are spent having dinner on the beach or on the fabulous new dhow that has just been built. Utter bliss...

EGMONT UK PUBLISHES RARE THOMAS ARTWORK FOR THE BRAND’S 65TH ANNIVERSARY.
Egmont UK publishes rare artwork from the Rev. W. Awdry’s Estate in a sumptuous, slip cased, limited edition of Thomas the Tank Engine to celebrate The 65th anniversary of the first publication of his Railway series stories featuring Thomas and his locomotive friends.
The book features a special introduction with eight pages of rare material, including Wilbert Awdry’s sketches of engines Thomas and Gordon, a tracing of Thomas, a sketch made by Awdry for the illustrator’s guidance, the wooden model of Thomas that Awdry made for his son, Christopher, plus 4 more rare photographs giving fans an insight into the creation of the famous Railway-Series.

“Christopher had measles and was getting better but he was a bit scratchy and needed entertaining,” explains Rev Awdry’s daughter Veronica Chambers. “Father told him stories, nursery rhymes and songs and his favourite was ‘Down in the Station Early in the Morning’. So to make it more interesting father drew pictures of the engines in the shed waiting to start off. They all had different faces but Christopher liked the sad one and that’s how the first story started”.
"We never dreamed that the stories our father read to us at meal times, would come to be known throughout the world and loved by children 65 years later,” says Rev.Awdry’s daughter Hilary Fortnam. “Dad would have been very surprised by that, and we are very proud of him."
“Thomas has become universal,” adds Christopher Awdry. “The general recognition the name gets from all over the world is stunning. How long the stories, the tv, the coverage will continue is anyone’s guess but having survived 65 years maybe Thomas still has a little steam left!”

GLASTONBURY ABBEY EXTRAVAGANZA 2010 -5 AUGUST 2010
Another year – another incredible Glastonbury Abbey Extravaganza
It would be difficult to top the success of the 2009 Glastonbury Abbey Music Extravaganza. The sell-out Status Quo concert and the return of the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra provided two memorable evenings in the ancient parkland Abbey grounds.
But Michael Eavis has pulled off another masterstroke – 2010 has Madness at the Abbey!
The legendary British ska pioneers, Madness, with frontman Suggs, will have the Abbey jumping on Saturday 7th August. Originally from Camden Town, they formed in 1976 and were one of the most prominent bands of the late-1970s 2 tone/ska revival. Madness racked up over twenty consecutive Top 20 hits in the UK charts with numbers like ‘Our House’ and ‘Baggy Trousers’.
Opening the show on Saturday 7th will be 70’s legend Steve Harley and Cockney Rebel most famous for the iconic chart topper ‘Make Me Smile (Come Up And See Me)’ - one of the most played records in British broadcasting.
On Sunday 8th August, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra create a breathtaking family concert with a performance of popular classics full of popular pieces, culminating with a chance to wave flags to “Land of Hope and Glory”. Innovative violinist Nicola Benedetti returns for her third appearance at the Extravaganza, six years after her stunning victory as BBC Young Musician of the Years. We welcome back guest soloists tenor Andrew Rees and soprano Jo Appleby.
The Sunday concert will open with string quartet Raven – the resident quartet for the BBC 2 series, Maestro. Raven have performed and recorded with artists such as Gorillaz, Jools Holland, Leona Lewis and Gwen Stefani.
It goes without saying that fireworks and water fountain will add to what is always an exceptional production.
August 7th and 8th will be a weekend to pack your picnic and party!
