Coolcanals Guides Ltd, the publisher of the waterways’ most exciting book of 2009, has announced the launch of two companion titles in March 2010 - Weekend Walks and Pub Days Out. Both titles focus on the waterways of Britain and celebrate the variety of activities available to users of our canals and rivers.Authors Phillippa Greenwood & Martine O’Callaghan have a mission to walk all the canals of Britain, in every season and all weathers, and have already backpacked from the sands of Cornwall to the Highlands of Scotland! The canals meander almost 2,000 miles over the Welsh mountains, the Peak District, across the Pennines, and through almost every rural contour and major city of the land.
Coolcanals Weekend Walks.
Synopsis: The best canal walks aren’t just about walking – they’re no fuss adventures, steeped in the wonders of the waterways. Martine & Phillippa have handpicked some of the best walks along the towpaths of our island & have included highlights from their end-to-end towpath trek. Each walk in this book is different, with easy walking that’s never short of thrills. Walk as far as you want, stop to sightsee as often as you want; and it’s never a sin to linger over a canalside lunch.
Coolcanals Pub Days Out: Synopsis : Great pub days out along Britain’s canals are about soaking up the slow charms of some special canalside pubs, taking time for long lazy lunches on the waterside. Spend the day unravelling the mysteries of fascinating lock flights, discovering the marvels of manmade heritage, and meeting wildlife. Pub Days Out sets out to offer the enjoyment of locally brewed ales and ciders, while huddling up to cosy open fires in winter and lolling in waterside beer gardens in summer, watching narrowboats drift by. This, the third title from Coolcanals Guides, is unashamedly a personal tribute to some of the authors’ favourite pubs. However, as the title suggests there is more to the book than ales.

Hot Brands Verdict
We really enjoyed the first book by Phillippa and Martine (Cool Canals-The Guide) and these latest two handy sized guides are equally inspired. From the beach in Cornwall to the Highlands of Scotland the Weekend Walks handpicked selection is full of beautiful photography and packed through with information. The Pub Days Out is an invitation to enjoy lazy days out discovering Britain’s fascinating canals, and enjoying some of the best waterside pubs, again with evocative photography and full details of how to get there, and other things to do in the local area. More than anything these two delightful guides are full of character and charm making them a perfect companion for weekend walks and holidays. We love them, they really are a guide to ‘Cool Places’ and we highly recommend them!
