In celebration of the spotlight on Chelsea’s calendar, Peter Jones has created the ultimate RHS Chelsea Flower Show inspired afternoon tea – the Peter Jones Darling Puds of May. Amongst the selection of floral dainties on the menu, expert pâtissiers at Peter Jones have reinvented the Chelsea Bun - with its local heritage and new floral twist, Peter Jones’ Chelsea Honey-Bun captures the essence of the RHS Chelsea Flower Show beautifully in the form of a tea-time treat.
Originally created at the local Bun House on Pimlico Road, Peter Jones has brought the Chelsea Bun back to life with the addition of special floral ingredients.
Lashings of honey produced from mountain heather nectar, described as the ‘Rolls Royce of Honey’ both for its distinct toffee-like taste and its relative rarity as well as sprinkles of sugared rose petals make the Chelsea Honey Bun a blooming marvellous addition to the Darling Puds of May menu at Peter Jones.
From 19th – 31st May Peter Jones will be serving ‘Darling Puds of May’, in the Brasserie and newly-refurbished Top Floor Restaurant, with menu choices including:
· Peter Jones’ Chelsea Honey-Bun.
· Rhubarb and elderflower vanilla home made yoghurt.
· Heather honey mousse.
· Chocolate and lavender mille feuille.
Peter Jones’ Chelsea Honey-Bun is available for £3.25 with additional desserts ranging from £5.45 to £6.95.
The Chelsea Bun’s history is deeply rooted just a stone’s throw away from the Peter Jones store, with the first ever Bun created in the eighteenth century at the Bun House on Pimlico Road. The Chelsea Bun grew in popularity during the eighteenth century, attracting high society and even Hanoverian royalty to the Bun House, including Kings George II and III. The Chelsea Bun is recognised by its characteristic square shape, scattering of currents and enticing aroma hot from the oven. Llinos Woods, Head Chef at Peter Jones, says, ‘This year we really wanted to capture both the floral spirit of the RHS Chelsea Flower Show and the local heritage in our Darling Puds of May menu and a floral Chelsea Bun gave us the perfect opportunity to do so. However, the Chelsea Honey-Bun is just one of the many desserts on the menu infused with floral tastes – any of the Darling Puds of May treats offer a wonderful way to celebrate in style after a great day.’
