Emma Bridgewater started her pottery company in 1985.  Inspired by a fruitless shopping trip to find a present for her Mum.  She knew exactly what she had in mind and went on to design her own range of spongeware patterns and simple pottery shapes.  Spongeware, a process similar to the potato prints we all made as children, was a technique made popular in England, Scotland and America in the19th century.  Emma’s animal and floral themed designs were a new look for the mid-eighties.  They were simple, natural, naïve and very English.

Twenty years on many of the same shapes are still in use although many of the patterns have changed.  The collection now includes bright, hand-sponged Polka Dots, bold floral designs, striking black lettering and beautifully detailed Bird transferware.  Emma’s pottery is increasingly collectible and has a devoted following.  In addition to the catalogue patterns customers can order personalised gifts by adding names, dates and messages to eight favourite shapes.  Choose from five popular spongeware designs.
The majority of Emma’s collection is pottery but the range also includes beautiful etched glass, kitchen textiles and tin storage - the glass makes wonderful wedding gifts. For perfect children’s gifts there is pottery with sweet Dancing Mice, Dinosaurs, Men At Work and a Tiny Tea Set in Polka Dot.  We also have tin lunch boxes and melamine sets for boys and girls, including a 19 piece Dollies tea set.

There are six Emma Bridgewater shops in the UK – two in London, one in Edinburgh and three in Stoke-on-Trent, the heart of the Potteries.

The restaurant Alain Ducasse at The Dorchester is famed for its fine French cuisine. Located within the famous Park Lane hotel, at the heart of Mayfair, the restaurant is one of London’s most elegant venues. It has recently been named Best New Restaurant by the 2009 Zagat guide and its head chef Jocelyn Herland, who trained under the multi award-winning French chef Alain Ducasse, has developed an exciting menu which consistently respects and champions current seasonal produce – many sourced from the British Isles.
