Charlie Whinney is the leading exponent of the art of steam-bending wood to create beautiful, unusual curved furniture and sculptures. His work and projects are among the most challenging and ambitious in the UK currently, each taking the art (and science)-form further along an unbeaten track of innovation. His most recent projects this summer include a 30m Oak sculpture of DNA for Cambridge University, and a collaboration with Metropolitan Workshop for the London Architecture Festival – a piece entitled Road Trip to the Moon. Future architectural projects include a sculpture for a major new London hotel; a piece to go in Leicester Square, and a Manchester warehouse conversion.

Leaving sixixis (the popular Laurent Perrier Award-winning company he founded three years ago) has enabled him to focus on bigger products and projects, and to work with leading architects and garden designers, starting with winning Gold at Chelsea with Andy Sturgeon last year. Current products include the Coral Arbour which continues the theme of microscopic life forms – this is a stunning sculptural outdoor piece in a very limited edition of only two.

It is available at practically half its value before 8th August due to the raising of funds for a new product line (see below) – this is an amazing investment opportunity and a chance to own an intense, functional piece which is never to be repeated. Contact us directly for more information.

The Fountain Bench is another new sculptural themed product, product to be developed. He is also developing the ever-popular CurlyShade – this season the Giant CurlyShade is available in a limited edition. The GallopyGallopy Bed is available once again, mounted on used car springs and with a choice of 'gallopy' rating from 1 to 10.

Charlie has always worked with the environment-friendly principle of only using locally-sourced wood from sustainable forests, and his production methods are as close to carbon neutral as possible. Now he is going to take that principle, along with the whole concept and purpose of design, to a whole new level with a range of products under the brand Fragmented Factories. Initial information will be available during London Design Week.

The Wolseley was created by Chris Corbin and Jeremy King in 2003 in the style of  the Grand Café normally only found on the Continent. The original building was commissioned in 1921 by Wolseley Cars as their West End showroom and  was designed by William Curtis Green in the Art Deco style of the time.
