Vogue Sept 2011ACCOMPANIED BY VOGUE CATWALKING, AN EXCLUSIVE DVD TREND GUIDE FOR AUTUMN/WINTER 2011 COLLECTIONS

FROM VESTAL VIRGINS TO STREET-SHARP Sixties cats, size up the new collections in our Big Fashion Issue with the eye, the body and the mind. What started out on the catwalk as a provocative play with fetish chic (zips, feathers, leather!) translates onto VOGUE’s pages via the character of a seventeenth-century Flanders maiden. What’s the story? A high-necked demure silhouette played off with virginal cottons and votive-like jewellery. If neither the sacred nor the profane motivates, attune yourself to the new proportions where bigger is better, especially when it comes to topcoats. Fashion is about obsession – delight the eye with the new iridescents and scintillating fish-scale sequins, or lose yourself in the fantasy of a print, where Memphis graphics and flora mesmerise with a magic not seen before. Every season has a retro fascination. Don stovepipe trousers, tunic and shades, and get hip to the Sixties beat. Fashion is accelerating – let’s go!

And in a first for British VOGUE, the September issue will be accompanied by VOGUE Catwalking, an exclusive DVD trend guide to the key international collections.

Alexandra Shulman, Editor of British VOGUE, comments “From London, Paris, Milan and New York, we bring you our authoritative show footage, talk to the designers about the ideas behind their collections, and offer the VOGUE fashion team’s take on the exciting autumn/winter 2011 season.”

Trends covered on the DVD include the new length, jewel colours, androgyny, sixties, fetish, shearling, supersize, sparkle, checks and plaids, and accessories including knee-high boots, hats, hug and hold bags, mini bags, and chokers. Roland Mouret, Erdem, Frida Giannini, Sir Paul Smith, Sarah Burton and Nicole Fahri are just a few of the designers interviewed. The DVD has been created by the VOGUE team in collaboration with Spring Studios (also collaborators on the iPad app), and the narrator is Calgary Avansino, Executive Fashion Editor for the magazine. Further editorial authority comes from Fashion Directors Lucinda Chambers and Kate Phelan, as well as an overview from Alexandra Shulman.

PLUS; the man behind the headlines – the turbulent life of John Galliano; Bailey shoots the young actor playing him aged 24; and inside the world of Jenna Lyons, the creative force behind Michelle Obama’s favourite J Crew.

The September issue of British VOGUE is on sale from Thursday 4th August.
