House & Garden October 2011ACCOMPANIED BY FREE CHELSEA HARBOUR DESIGN CENTRE MAGAZINE – THE LATEST FROM EUROPE’S NUMBER ONE DESTINATION FOR DESIGN AND DECORATION.

PRECISELY RIGHT

When Jane Churchill downsized to a two-bedroom London terrace house, she employed all her design skills to give her new home an air of space, light and calm.

TOWN HOUSE RESCUE

With the help of an expert team, the new owners of an eighteenth-century house in Spitalfields, which had been badly converted into offices and a flat, restored it as a bright, calm family home, nonetheless preserving its Georgian architectural integrity.

DOWN ON THE CREEK
Set at the head of a Cornish creek, with spectacular views, this former mill house has been converted by architect Alex Michaelis into a perfect retreat for a busy London couple.

MARVELLOUS MEDLEY

Originally a barn, subsequently converted as a house, used as a dining club and again as a house, this sixteenth-century building offered its new owner the perfect chance to consolidate his eclectic and beautiful belongings in a stylish and comfortable interior.

TWIST IN THE TALE
Landscape architect Jane Brown’s design for what was a featureless garden in a valley of the South Downs incorporates discrete spaces, in a classical idiom, and distinctly modern elements.

PLUS: Highlights of the London Design Festival; Tom Kennedy, one of only a handful of scagliola specialists in the world; and artist Beezy Bailey’ driving passions.
