The Most Beautiful Restaurants from Paris to the Côte d’Azur- Gilles Pudlowski Photography by Maurice Rougemont
Synopsis: France is a country known for its splendid restaurants and creative chefs. And, when faced with the mouth-watering selection of restaurants in this country, it would be difficult for anyone to select a mere forty for the creation of a page-turning gourmet tour. But acclaimed restaurant critic Gilles Pudlowski has done just that, assembling an awe-inspiring culinary path from one extraordinary restaurant to another, providing us with engaging stories from behind-the-scenes or behind-the-recipe!
In the heart of Paris is the Carré des Feuillants, nestled between Place Vendôme and the Tuileries gardens. The elegant Château des Crayères in Champagne is a restaurant to leave one feeling as if they are dining in the splendour of another era. Turn the pages and it is on to the Auberge de I’lll in the verdant Alsatian countryside. From the terrace of Le Petit Nice one dines with breathtaking views that stretch across the harbour at Marseilles. Each of these 40 legendary restaurants is brought to life!
Some of the world-renowned chefs who are featured include Paul Bocuse, Alain Ducasse, Guy Savoy, and Anne-Sophie Pic. The chef at each of the forty selected restaurants reveals two signature recipes for readers to use at home, whilst enjoying a little flavour of France.
France excels in the art of living well and this tour of splendid restaurants, creative chefs, and succulent dishes exemplifies that art. For those wishing to embark on a gourmet journey all of their own, there are full address details of each featured restaurant.
Gilles Pudlowski is a food and literature critic for Le Point. Each year he publishes his guides Pudlo Paris and Pudlo France. He is the author of Great Women Chefs of Europe (Flammarion, 2005).
